The real steal: Draft beers and well drinks are $4, Rolling Rock beer, $2.50; Skyy vodka-flavored Cosmos and house wines, $5; and Svedka vodka martinis, $6. They also have rotating cocktails for $6, such as mai tai, margaritas and a Jim Beam Manhattan.

If you’re hungry, their full-size bar bites are $5.95 each. Garlic fries and boneless buffalo chicken are available only during happy hour, and other popular choices are the Baja fish tacos, grilled artichoke with lemon aioli or calamari.

The vibe: think “Cheers” when you hear this restaurant’s name. why? well, it is the type of place where they know everyone by name. the restaurant is filled with warm and inviting colors, mahogany wood and plenty of windows to let in the sunlight, giving you a very San Francisco-like feel. A couple of faux plants are placed around the restaurant, and tables and chairs as well as booths line the perimeter. the bar takes up the middle of the restaurant with a wall of liquor and plenty of seating.

Signature drink: the Skyy vodka Cosmo tends to be very popular. the raspberry-flavored vodka is the most common choice. however, you can try it with passion fruit, blood orange, or coconut.

Bathroom break: the bathroom is tucked away in the back of the restaurant and has three stalls, two sinks, and four mirrors, including an oversized, full-length mirror. the dim lighting inside gives the bathroom the same warm feel as the rest of the restaurant, and in the springtime, they also have fresh flowers inside.

Alternative libations: just as much as the women love their Cosmo, men love the Manhattan at 4th Street Grille. Made with Jim Beam bourbon, this recipe reflects old-school style, with a classic recipe to give you an authentic experience.

Something extra: Sit at the bar where it’s easy to flag down a bartender, and the fans above keep you feeling cool and comfortable. the bartenders are also great company.Café Campanile

The real steal: All beer, well drinks and house wine are half off during happy hour in the bar. Add in the bar menu featuring artichoke dip, calamari with orange chipotle aioli, chicken skewers with spicy peanut sauce, eggplant fries, shrimp cocktail and more – ranging from $2.99 to $5.99 – and you’ve got yourself a pretty nice kickoff to your evening in old Sacramento.

The vibe: Nestled between the train tracks (which you cross to reach the entrance) and the lazy Sacramento River, the exterior of Rio City Cafe blends right in with its historic locale. The restaurant looks as though it could have been open for riverfront dining 100 years ago. Inside, the restaurant is upscale, warm and inviting (fireplace and kitchen to your immediate right) and quite large, with the bar placed almost in the middle of all the action.

Signature drink: Assistant general manager Phallon Miller says there isn’t really a “signature” drink, but she quickly suggests we sample the raspberry mojito. there are seven other flavors.

Take a seat: take a seat at the bar where you’ll find plenty of windows to enjoy a view of the trees and the river.

Bathroom break: As you transition from the interior of the restaurant to the enclosed patio in the back, you will find the restrooms. they offer only two stalls – but one is large enough for wheelchair or mother-child use.

Alternative libations: Seven beers on tap, seven more in the bottle – and all of them half-off during happy hour in the bar. The house wine, Stone Cellars, is also an exceptional choice.

Something extra: from now until Christmas, old Sacramento will be a festive mecca. Raley’s Theatre of Lights promises a cutting-edge light and sound show Thursdays through Sundays until Dec. 18, then nightly Dec. 19-Dec. 24. Or take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage. Street parking will be free on weekends.

On Wednesdays and Thursdays, when you spend $100, you get a $30 gift certificate. Silver Sake has a neighborhood feel, and no matter what day you go in, they make you feel like family. Suggested items on the $9 list: “Money roll” or barbecue albacore tuna.
